All states, territories and the federal government offer a variety of different grants and low interest loan programs. State and federal grants come in many different forms and for different purposes. The most common types of grants are for higher education (college and post-secondary education) and for small businesses. But there are a large number of grants for just about everything you can think of. Grants for healthcare and subsidized housing are common for low income families. However, there are also grants for Arts and Humanities that are not tied to income levels. There are also grants for certain types of business start-ups and innovation.
Grants, unlike loans, do not have to be repaid. But all grants have very strict eligibility requirements and most require a substantial amount of paperwork to determine eligibility. Below are links to some of the state grant programs available. This list is by no means exhaustive but continues to grow as users to this site add grant links.
